چکیده

The molar conductivity, Λm, of protic ionic liquids (PILs) in molecular solvents is measured at 298.15 K. The decrease in the Λm values of PILs is observed with an increase in the concentration of PILs. The limiting molar conductivities, Λm(0), were obtained for each PIL in different molecular solvents using a least squares method. The Λm(0) data for PILs were correlated with the structural aspects of PILs and solvent properties. The polar protic solvents show poor ionic association as compared to the polar aprotic solvents, which is discussed on the basis of the hydrogen bond donating (HBD) ability of solvents and PILs. The alkyl chain substitution of anions plays a significant role in the ionic association of the PILs. The diffusion coefficient D(0) and the transport number t were determined, which were consistent with the Λm(0) values of PILs in water. The Λm(0) and D(0) values are dependent on the hydrodynamic radius of anions of these ionic liquids. The extent of ionic association for each PIL was discussed using temperature dependent Λm data for aqueous PIL systems in terms of the Walden plot.

Physicochemical properties determined by ΔpKa for protic ionic liquids based on an organic super-strong base with various Brønsted acids.

Neutralization of an organic super-strong base, 1,8-diazabicyclo-[5,4,0]-undec-7-ene (DBU), with different Brønsted acids affords a novel series of protic ionic liquids (PILs) with wide variations in the ΔpK(a) of the constituent amine and acids. The physicochemical properties of these PILs, such as thermal properties, density, conductivity, viscosity, self-diffusion coefficient, vibrational st...

Regenerated silk fibroin using protic ionic liquids solvents: towards an all-ionic-liquid process for producing silk with tunable properties.

We have shown that protic ionic liquids, pILs, are effective coagulation solvents for the regenerated of silk fibroin, RSF. We show that the choice of pIL has a dramatic effect on the composition of the RSF. Additionally the use of pILs as the coagulator eliminates the need for volatile organic solvents in silk processing.

Prediction of macroscopic properties of protic ionic liquids by ab initio calculations.

We have systematically investigated combinations of anions and cations in a number of protic ionic liquids based on alkylamines and used ab initio methods to gain insight into the parameters determining their liquid range and their conductivity. A simple, almost linear, relation of the experimentally determined melting temperature with the calculated volume of the anion forming the ionic liquid...
